Settings
Search Drive for markdown files, or sign out of this device.
Appearance
Choose a color theme for the editor. Settings sync to your Google account (Drive app data) after sign-in.
Total space reserved for the iPhone status bar in the Home Screen app. 0 puts content at the top of the screen.
Where the tab bar sits. 0 is flush with the screen bottom; negative pushes it further down into empty space; positive lifts it up.
Font size for Preview and List content in Edit. 100% is the default.
Highlight where each bullet starts and ends in custom and normal lists (Preview and List modes).
On: each item is its own container (uniform fill in Normal; coloured stripes in other modes). Off: the list stays continuous and stripe modes change text colour instead.
Used the first time you open a markdown file in Edit. After that, the last mode for that file is remembered.
Quickly double-tap a list item in Preview or List to copy that item and any nested points. Turn off if it interferes with scrolling or selection.
Saving
Default on. Tapping Save (or ⌘/Ctrl+S) shows a “Saving in progress” screen that blocks other buttons until Drive finishes. Autosave after the idle timer still runs quietly. Turn off only if you want to keep using the app during a manual save.
Finder layout
Choose where the Markdown section appears relative to Folders.
Show .md on markdown names in Finder and Pinned. Off by default.
Prefer notes in My Drive for the most reliable sync with your phone. The Computers location can work for Drive for Desktop folders, but Google’s API support for that section is unofficial/incomplete — if a computer doesn’t appear, move the folder into My Drive on drive.google.com.
- ⌘/Ctrl+F searches inside the open markdown file.
- ⌘/Ctrl+S saves the open file.
- Preview shows formatted markdown and ranked lists (tap the pen to edit a list). Use Edit here then tap text to jump into Raw at that spot. List focuses on lists only. Raw is the full file text. Turn on Pure reader in the Edit ⋮ menu to lock Preview (no list buttons, long-press, or mini editor) when handing the device to someone.
- Unsaved edits autosave to Drive after 10 seconds of inactivity — the slim bar under the mode switcher counts down remaining idle time. You can still tap Save anytime. Tapping Save can show a Saving in progress lock (turn this off in Settings if you really need to). Autosave never blocks the screen. Undo / Redo in the Edit toolbar (and ⌘/Ctrl+Z) still work after autosave. For older cloud versions after reload, open Version history from the Edit ⋮ menu. Use Name this version… for a permanent checkpoint.
- Date tags use
{{date:YYYY-MM-DD}}(smart formats like3 Aug 2026also work). They stay in Raw; Preview hides them unless you turn on Show dates in the Edit ⋮ menu. New list items (normal and custom) get today’s tag automatically. Use Insert date for one tag, or Fill missing list dates… to stamp every undated list item with the file’s created date or a custom date. - Export a list as JSON from To-Do List / Story Manager, then use Import here — tap Preview content and choose Above / Below to place it.
- Use List / Preview for ranked
mdlistblocks. - Tap ⋮ in Finder to Pin a note or folder — Pinned opens first after sign-in.
- Tap a folder path segment in Finder to jump up the tree.
